What does "Trauma-informed" mean?

Being "trauma-informed" refers to an approach that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma on individuals and emphasizes creating an environment that promotes safety, trust, and empowerment. This approach is applied across various settings, including healthcare, education, social services, and mental health.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is generally future-oriented and focuses on personal or professional development. It aims to help individuals set and achieve goals, enhance performance, and create positive changes in their lives. Coaches may not necessarily have a background in mental health. They come from diverse fields and may specialize in areas such as life coaching, career coaching, relationship coaching, or wellness coaching. Coaching emphasizes goal-setting, skill development, and action-oriented strategies. It encourages clients to identify their strengths, values, and aspirations, working towards creating a more fulfilling and purposeful life, and is often a shorter-term and more solution-focused process. The number and frequency of coaching sessions are typically determined by the client's goals and needs.

Is Psychotherapy Right for me?

Psychotherapy can be beneficial for a wide range of individuals facing various challenges and concerns. It is not limited to those experiencing severe mental health issues; rather, it is a resource that can be valuable for people across different life stages and circumstances.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy primarily addresses mental health concerns, emotional challenges, and psychological disorders. It delves into the root causes of distress and often involves exploring past experiences and their impact on current thoughts and behaviors, and is typically provided by licensed mental health professionals who use a range of therapeutic modalities. The goals of psychotherapy often include symptom reduction, emotional regulation, improved interpersonal relationships, and deeper self-understanding. It aims to help individuals manage and overcome mental health issues, and is often considered a longer-term process, and the frequency and duration of sessions may vary based on the severity of the issues being addressed.

What is the difference between Psychotherapy and Coaching?

Psychotherapy and coaching are both supportive processes that aim to help individuals overcome challenges and achieve personal growth, but they differ in their focus, scope, and underlying principles. Both psychotherapy and coaching offer valuable support, psychotherapy is more focused on addressing mental health issues and emotional challenges, often with a deeper exploration of the past. Coaching, on the other hand, is geared towards goal achievement, skill development, and creating positive changes in the present and future. The choice between psychotherapy and coaching depends on individual needs, the nature of the concerns, and the desired outcomes.

Is Therapy Covered by Insurance?

Everyone's insurance plans are different but many do cover psychotherapy. Check with your insurer to see if they cover psychotherapy and confirm if it covers therapy from a registered psychotherapist, a registered occupational therapist or a registered social worker.

Is Direct Insurance Billing Available?

No, we do not bill your insurance directly, You will need to pay by credit card, debit or

e-transfer and we provide you with an invoice that you submit to your insurer for reimbursement.

What Happens in Therapy?

Everyone's journey is different but they all start with getting to know your therapist and letting your therapist get to know you. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is the most important part of therapy, from there you will be able to decide what goals you want to work on and what tools and strategies sound right for you. Everything you say is confidential, and you always have the right to pause or stop therapy anytime you choose, you can also choose to change therapists and that's ok too.

What Are The Risks?

Psychotherapy can be a very challenging experience because it asks you to confront the thoughts and feelings that you have likely been avoiding, this can result in feeling worse before you feel better. Therapy is also not a quick fix, it can take a long time to see results and it is not inexpensive. If you do not find the right therapeutic fit, it can lead to negative perspectives about therapy and feelings of hopelessness. Mental health is also very stigmatized, some people may be judgmental towards individuals who seek support, although they shouldn't be.
